My family visited the zoo on this week, and were left feeling very disappointed by the ‘Islands’. There were nine in my party, ranging from two 2 year olds to my 82 year old Dad. When we booked on line, there was no mention that the ‘Islands’ were a mere building site, with very little to see. All the publicity – on line & TV promote this fantastic new attraction – and it maybe in 2 to 3 years time, but from seeing it as it is, I’m not sure if we will return to see it! I appreciate the costs involved in the upkeep of the whole zoo, and most of the ‘old zoo’ is very good, but when you as a family pay around £175 just to get in then to be misled in this way is very disappointing!

The Zoo have been quite open about Islands and have said “Islands will evolve and grow over the weeks, months and years to come”. They have also been quite informative about the progress of islands via their website and we knew what to expect before our visit.

Not sure where you ended up but to say it was “a mere building site” is simply not true. Yes if you look you can see the ongoing work in the other areas but I thought they have done a good job of the part that is open and when all the animals move in it will be even better. I’m also pleasantly surprised that the river boat trip was free as the old boat trip and monorail incur an additional charge.

I can see what you are saying BISH :
“Not sure where you ended up but to say it was “a mere building site” is simply not true. Yes if you look you can see the ongoing work in the other areas but I thought they have done a good job of the part that is open and when all the animals move in it will be even better”

but as you say “when all the animals move in it will be even better” but the bits that are open, are basically a footpath thru a building site!!

The part that is open to the public is nothing like a building site. In fact the walk through it was quite nice and they have done a great job of landscaping the area.

Still can’t agree Bish, never mind went to Waterworld this morning, paid at the door as usual, popped me cozzy on and went through to the pool, a bit of maintenance was going on and the pool had no water in it, nice walk though and without that nasty smell of chlorine!
    or
Went to the cinema last night, seen a great film advertised on TV, paid at the door as normal, took out a mortgage for some sweets and popcorn and went through to take our seats, a bit of maintenance was going on and the screen was missing, nice sit down though!
    or
Went to the Racecourse the other night, seen a great match advertised in the local paper, paid at the door as normal, took our seats, and Wrexham didn’t bother playing, no change there though!

Shall I go on, or du get my point!

The only point I get is that you’re talking bollocks and you can post all the silly analogies you want. Opinion is one thing but to say the phase that is open is a “building site” is not true. The areas where there is ongoing work are inaccessible to the public.

I don’t know what led you to believe that all the animals had been moved into their new enclosures. As I said we knew what to expect prior to our visit and the Zoo have been quite open about the way Islands is being developed. You paid to visit the Zoo as a whole and it’s your fault if you didn’t know about more about Islands, it appears you were mistaken not mislead.
