The care of the elderly and infirm has been privatised almost by stealth. It is my belief that the whole industry of care for the elderly should be nationalised, with the billions in rake off given to the privateers in profits be used to train more carers and nurses and the creation of better more congenial homes for the elderly.Whats more the private sector are now taking on care of people with dementia and I find this to be profoundly worrying.Dementia patients need proper care form professionally trained doctors nurses and carers, and should come firmly under the auspicis of the NHS.This should not be happening.

So what’s makes profit better than a Communist manifesto in old age? We all know business is better than government at everything. How many world class state owned universities do we have in the uk?

Old age does not, and should not, make you be forced to follow a Corbyn/Stlalin/Kim Young Un/Maoist socialist agenda. Yes, care for elderly should be better, but until as a collective, it is agreed to pay more for it, market dynamics will limit the quality. This is still better than the Gulag’s or internally displaced camps found in Asia. Old age is clearly a social issue, and not the remit of NHS.

The NHS was, is, and will be, the greatest of all British institutions, but do not confuse Social and Health care. Health care is free and point of need, and we are proud of it. Old age does not automatically give you the right to abuse this. (I am speaking as someone who was refused free care for an elderly relative, and was forced to go private). Care is to free, emergency health is. If you want better care, sell your assets and pay as we did. Not bemoan the NHS

The welfare system includes the NHS and social care, that’s why it’s called a ‘cradle to grave’ system.

The privatisation programme is a nasty joke at your expense. You pay a lot and get rubbish.

Another example of this is how the Tories pay Atos and Maximus a fortune to keep checking that people with permanent and degenerative disabilities and illnesses are still disabled and ill at regular intervals. A complete waste of money, but a nice little earner for the private companies.

Comments like ‘[o]ld age does not, and should not, make you be forced to follow a Corbyn/Stlalin/Kim Young Un/Maoist socialist agenda’ are pantomime gold and nothing more than an ‘appeal to ridicule,’ look it up.

I totally agree with the OP, the sooner these things are renationalised with improved in-built protections, the better. Private companies should not be allowed to exploit and abuse vulnerable people for profit.

Until recently all universities were wholly state owned and were considered the best in the world.Since the privateers have got their grubby hands on them, down goes the quality and up goes the principles salary. The reality is however that the privateers cannot run education without billions in state aid…state aid capitalism.
By the way the NHS is the western worlds biggest and most successful nationalised body…no gulags…no stalins…ahh! yes but a Corbyn!! who strangely enough wants to preserve it and make it even better.

I always say it but the NHS is this country’s greatest asset and should be protected at all costs. There are major issues with it & it will need an extensive look into dealing with ageing population & those with long term illnesses that mean they need lifelong care. However, privatisation isn’t the answer. There is no excuse for profiting and paying out shareholders when it comes to people’s lives and health. Knocking up vital cancer drugs to abusive levels of cost, charging people for basic lifesaving actions like treatment for a stroke or heart attack or giving birth. No matter how you look at capitalism anywhere else – there is no place for it when it comes to our lives.

As both the private sector and publlic bodies such as Local Authorities or Health are all subject to the same Quality Inspection syetem then there should be no compromise. Anyone who has an issue with quality should report the issues.

In respect to profits going to the private sector – I fully agree that shareholders should not gain. We all need to remember all working people have invested in Social care and Health through Taxes and National Insurance so we are all shareholders and can bring managers to account if they are failing.
