Summerhill, or Brynhyfryd as we call you in Welsh, you’d have to deviate significantly from the actual meaning of the words – basically rewrite it – in order to accomodate your sentiments of Wales. Have you considered moving to a country whose anthem you can appreciate?

It would be interesting to see how the Swiss get round this one, given the fact of there being 3 main languages in play there (German, French and Italian) as well as others. Whilst Welsh may have been the language of Wales at a distant point in the past, the facts don’t seem to support this nowadays. English is clearly the main language with Welsh and Polish representing a smaller percentage. If the intention is to democratise the anthem, the numbers would suggest that an English alternative would be viable. Equally there are traditions in play, and I can see no reason why the existing anthem should should be abandoned…….not at the moment anyway

Or we could simply do as the South Africans have already done where their anthem contains stanzas in the Country’s 5 main languages, reflecting the make up of the population properly.
And while we are at it, find an alternative to God Save the Queen. Probably the most boring and depressing anthem on the planet!

I am proud to be Welsh and also British and sing both National Anthems with pride. Wales is a wonderful country and we should be proud of our heritage.

Have you considered obtaining and relying on financial support for your principality from a nation you don’t hate?
