JaneJParticipantWe should not forget that Health in Wales is devolved — no matter how much money Westminster says they will allocate to Health they are only talking about England. It is entirely up to the Welsh Government to determine how much should be allocated to health in Wales from the settlement.
We no longer have a NATIONAL Health ServiceJanuary 7, 2015 at 9:17 am #68881
wrexviewParticipantThe public’a problem is Labour are failing in Wales and the coalition are failing in England and even deny there is a problem with A&E! What will happen if we have some very cold weather, a Flu epidemic or other national emergency?

wrexviewParticipantA few weeks ago there was talk that an extra thirty beds would be opened in the Maelor Hospital, does anyone know if that actually happened ?

Mrs CreweParticipantDespite all experts telling her not to do it, Edwina Hart insisted on creating one health board in North Wales. She turned what had been an excellent hospital into part of a behemoth which continues to lumber to total disarray. Part of the agreement to become a single entity was that back office staff had job security for 10-15 years. This is why it’s almost impossible to get a non medical job at the hospital, they keep recycling all the duplicated staff. In some cases they are paying people to come to work and read the paper as they have no work.
My sympathies are with the mainly dedicated medical staff who must be demoralised and as frustrated as we are. The Welsh Govt has so much to answer for, they have proved themselves inept and incompetent in all areas.January 9, 2015 at 8:16 pm #68926
Andrewt8ParticipantAmbulance waiting times have nothing to do with ambulances …it is about cynical manipulation of A&E waiting times …a three hour wait in an ambulance plus an hour wait go see a triage nurse plus a four hour wait to see a doctor will be recorded by A&E as a one hour wait. We live in a statistically driven world sadly.

Wrecsam_ladParticipantNo wonder A&E is rammed full all the time. My 83 year old mum trying to get a GP appointment and they are closed for training until Monday…

wrexviewParticipantMark Drakeford is releasing extra finance to the Ambulance Service in Wales , but today’s appeal from Betsi Cadwaladr shows the root of the problem ,as Dr.Sen explained to Mark Drakeford in his Radio 4 interview, is lack of beds! Ambulance waiting outside hospitals is the effect of the lack of beds not the cause!

justjojo2011ParticipantThis is where they need to focus on. Not A&E, fix the issues within the GP service first and the rest will follow suit.
The question that needs to be asked, is of those people trying to get an appointment with their GP, how many NEED to see a GP? How many will be sent away with no medical intervention? How many can be dealt with at a pharmacy?

PhilWynnParticipantBCHB directors acknowledged at last weeks WCBC Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee that the finances were in place to open the closed wards at the Maelor but were having to run a recruitment drive in Spain for nursing staff to do so.
In the meantime ambulances will struggle to admit patients to A&E.
Whilst said directors have promised to return to our scrutiny committee in six months time, with various progress reports including how the bottle-neck in our A&E is to be addressed, I fear the problems for Wrexham users of A&E are sadly only likely to get worse before they get better.
That said I had to call out an ambulance for a sick relative last week, when they were in attendance in under ten minutes and were able to provide the medical reassurances which prevented a visit to A&E. So hats off to our NHS front-line staff.

SheefagParticipantAnd what sanction or penalty if they don’t improve Mr Wynn? Nothing. Zilch. Zero.
Until these people are in danger of losing their cast iron jobs with their lovely index linked, final salary pensions, nothing will change, nothing at all.
Expect a ‘Lessons Will Be Learnt’ some months from now. -
