The Daily Post has carried a story about Aldi wanting to open a store on what appears to be the site of Dickens’ showroom. Anyone know what will happen to Dickens?

This was in the cards a couple of years back with another supermarket chain but it did not progress probably due to the delays in clearing the slag heap for housing. There s also a small supermarket site on the National Trust development plan for the land by the church- again delayed due to housing market. The Dickens site is a very busy junction and commercially would possibly catch traffic on way to Rhos as well

Seems a fair swop to me young man, the Council should bite their hand off, give them Ponciau as well I say!

Hope it goes ahead as we’ve just started shopping there and love it, beats the other supermarkets by a mile!

I like your style! Keep the posts coming! Refreshing change to the normally mundane droning.

Shame no one told the Dickens emplyees. They found out through a customer. Meanwhile Mr Dickens will get a nice fat payout.

There is a public exhibition in the Bersham Sports and Social Club shortly – leaflets around Rhostyllen today.
Im sure the employees need not worry as surely the franchise for the cars must still be kept in Wrexham area somewhere even if Dickens do not run them..
The site itself may still belong to the Council – certainly did in the 1980’s and Dickens may just have a lease–
The land originally was for the Council to add an extension to Tudor Avenue – part now has new Social Housing. The original development site was from the main Wrexham Road and going back to the Parish Hall and football pitch on Vicarage Hill.

No guarantee that there will always be a franchise locally. When the Renault franchise went from Speed Six in Pandy, there wasn’t another one created locally.

No chance of there being a new dealership. Of course the employees are worried you would be if your work place of many years was potentially shutting. My understanding is Mr Dickens owns the land the dealerships are on. Travelodge own the land with the petrol station starbucks and Travelodge are on and Gino owns the rest of it, although I’m not sure who owns Charles Owens land.
