[quote quote=94559]I realise that this area is usually extremely busy, even when there’s no roadworks, but surely, with properly controlled management, traffic should still flow relatively smoothly.
Sadly this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Only a few months ago, I was waiting to be picked up by my brother from the Countess of Chester hospital. From the end of the A483 by-pass, where the old roundabout was, to the main entrance of the hospital, took him almost exactly one hour!
A distance of only 4.8 miles.

[quote quote=93553]The Highways Agency or the councils could not care less about Chester Races or anyone else. I recall a few years ago major road works were carried out in Saltney which lasted about 6 months. They began on the day before a Chester Race meeting started !!

The road is finished. The all singing and dancing cycle path/footpath is far from finished – bits still dug up, bits not surfaced, 2x crossings not put in (and another which is needed but they’re not putting in).

The first thing they did when BBMM arrived on site was to dig up the footpaths, and they’re the last thing to put back.

Sorry if I’m holding anyone up, but I’ve got to cycle along the road now until it’s sorted.

Any more on how this is going, not heard anything bad yet, so I assume it is working well ?????

So far so good. I’ve suffered for years from the “rush hour” queues here and then the ones over the past 8 months while this work was undertaken. I remain convinced that the project was utterly mismanaged.

However, though I was sceptical about whether this work would do the job it does seem to be working generally well … so some credit where it’s due. I’m still unconvinced that this was the best solution and the traffic light set up isn’t yet optimal. There’s a great deal of finishing work to do as well.

But … simple answer to a simple question … it’s working pretty well so far.

Having avoided the junction for the last few months, I used it for the first time the other night when traveling home from Chester. While I was pleasantly surprised by the improved traffic flow I was concerned by the unfinished nature of the whole project (Armco Barriers not terminated correctly or missing, pavements and verges still needing repair and plastic conduit sticking out of ground).

Does anyone know if there are any plans to complete these tasks

I had asked the same question about the cycle path (e.g. when are they going to fill in the potholes they built into it…).
The reply was that they are going to resurface the potholed bits – but no timescale given.
Some bits that have already been built are still having the design agreed with Cheshire West, so might get redone
They also said they will be carrying out an audit at some point and will come back to make any alterations needed that this picks up (again no timescales given).

So much for doing things right first time.
