Not the ones I was expecting either. Local politics suddenly got very interesting!

This will have massive implications for Wrexham- the whole distribution of Chairs of committees, political make up etc are based on the numbers in each party. I wonder if they will remain a single breakaway group or whether individuals will join some of the existing groups.
I am sure there will be many meetings behind closed doors now that there is a rudderless ship to be steered through some very difficult times with budgets etc.

Early suggestions are that they will join deputy leader Mark Pritchard’s democratic independents, taking them up to 20. Could push Labour out of the coalition.

Do we not have bye elections in those wards where councillors have defected?

Don’t think it works like that with local politics. Smithfield’s Keith Gregory joined Plaid after being independent last year and it didn’t trigger one.

What was the catalyst for this action?

Clearly from the comments from Clr Rogers there is a massive difference in personalities and ‘performance’. If it was a performance issue why has it taken nearly a week for this to come from Cr Rogers– at no time was that mentioned at the time of the sacking of Clr King the only reference was to the issues over the ‘Independent Report’.
NO matter who anytime thinks is right in this situation the Electorate deserve honest , factual and above all FULL reports on issues not the selective drip feeding that seems to come from all parties.
We are supposedly in a state of financial crisis and there is a big risk that all this internal party politicking will detract from the real issues.
With so much in fighting it may be best if the Welsh Government bring in the Commissioners the same as they did in Anglesey Council to deal with politicians and interim management of what can clearly be seen as a failing Authority.

It is so sad to hear of this feuding in local politics. We elect representatives to look after the interests of all the residents of Wrexham as a whole.Maybe it is about time we returned to full Council meetings in which all councillors can have their individual say, and get rid of the eletist Executive Board.

Totally agree the power should return to the Full Council but this Executive Board idea came from the Blair era. Why should the Executive Board Meeting be cancelled , the work of the Council must go on, they are all still Councillors and are still taking their pay. Look out for a new grouping under something like “Independent Labour” plus others to take control. There is history of instability within the Wrexham Labour Party as far back as the Labour M.P Tom Ellis joining the SDP, and John Marek going from Labour to Forward Wales , all the way through to the Conservatives! I can’t believe any of these Councillors will go that far !

If I remember correctly Labour ousted their previous council leader and put Neil Rogers in her place. Infighting seems rife.

    Ahh yes here we go:
