Wrexham has been hit by heavy rains today causing flooding in several parts of the town already.

As we reported at 9am this morning the area is expected to be hit by 3-4ins of rain.

0.74 inches has already fallen today according to data from our own Wrexham based weather station, this is unique data to Wrexham rather than other data from 10-15 miles away.

The Environment Agency has warned people to be on their guard with a rain expected to continue throughout the afternoon getting worse towards the evening.

As pictured this morning by Claire Howells the park at the end of Smithy Lane flooded quickly, although as of 12pm had drained away.

Up on Summerhill Road in Gwersyllt Wrexham Council put out flood warning signs after rain water filled the road.

We went to check under the Rhosddu railway bridge which is usually prone to flooding, however it was relatively clear. We’ve been told the back roads around Holt and Farndon are particularly treacherous.

We’ve also taken a couple of videos of the River Gwenfro which has swollen pretty high down on St Giles Way.

Update as of 5-5:30pm :

Total rainfall so far today is 24.4mm , 0.96 inches , bear in mind this is actual data collected in Wrexham itself via Wrexham.com’s own professional weatherstation whereas other sites are showing data from around 15miles away from a weather station in Harwarden !

We have taken a trip up to Rossett, while checking out reports of an incident on the a483 (breakdown that was cleared quickly) so shot this video of the Alyn flowing very fast and rising:

We then went over the old bridge that joins Holt with Farndon, where the Dee seemed quite calm for now.

Update 6.20pm :
We are now at Bangor On Dee with video below, the local farmers are checking the water levels with some concern as residents look on.

Update 7.30pm
A flood alert has been issued for Rossett with the River Alyn at above normal levels (as videoed above) however properties are not thought to be in danger at present.

Midnight: Total rainfall for the day was 24.9mm, which is 0.9 of an inch.

Wrexham.com was monitoring the situation throughout the day to keep you updated.
