Wrexham’s Comet Store Under Threat

It is predicted that retailer Comet could enter administration as early as this morning, putting up to 6,000 jobs at risk.

Deloitte are expected to come in and run the company under administration. It appears the issue is with stocking for Christmas and ‘trading without credit insurance’ – basically protection for suppliers if Comet went bust.

Locally educated MoneySavingExpert.com expert Martin Lewis tweeted around midnight saying :

If you have Comet gift cards/vouchers for safety use then in store (not online) asap tomorrow morning for goods you can buy there and then

Comet was sold to OpCapita for a whopping £2 last year – the same company who bought MFI for £1, with MFI subsequently collapsing.

Wrexham’s store is just off Mount Street in the town centre.

The BBC is reporting Comet has confirmed that it will be put into administration next week.
