Single Integrated Plan – Is It ‘Incredibly Readable’ ?

The Council are looking to formally consult with the public on the draft Single Integrated Plan for Wrexham Local Service Board. This is being renamed to a snappier title of “Our Plan – Improving Quality of Life for the People of Wrexham”.

The council told Wrexham.com ‘its incredibly readable’ and to be fair, we suggest reading page 7 onwards of this PDF where it changes from councilese to normal readable text! :)

To copy and paste from it to give you a taster of the style, and to explain what on earth a Single Intergrated Plan is:

“hey – whose plan is this?
Yours. If you want it to be.
This is a plan that could make a difference to everyone in Wrexham. And everyone could help make happen. If they want to.
It’s also a plan for Wrexham Local Service Board. Or Wrexham LSB, for short.
“Wrexham what?” you say.
Well, Wrexham LSB is just a partnership name for lots of organisations that help provide services in Wrexham.
For example, Wrexham County Borough Council, North Wales Police, North Wales Fire Service and AVOW (Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham). Plus Glyndwr University, Yale College, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (NHS), Public Health Wales and the Probation Service.
Of course, all of these organisation have their own plans. But this plan will make sure they’re working together. To make Wrexham an even better place. With your help. You know?”

The document was shown to a handful of people by us, with a mixed reaction to its style. Comments included “they need to be commended for trying something new”, and “its like they have read the side of an Innocent Smoothie and tried to replicate the tone but failed”. We would be interested to know what you think to the ‘plain speaking’ on our forums.

We asked the council if this plan was something new, perhaps as a reaction to something, as the idea of all Wrexham stakeholders working towards the same goals seemed like common sense. Apparently this has been going on before, but now the Welsh Government have legislated to make such things compulsory, and this is the outcome, creating a legal framework.

The council said the plan is “to make sure people dont work in silos, but work together with common targets” and confirmed the council would be the lead body.

The document is not the final version (which is good as there is the odd typo – much like on Wrexham.com!) but the proposal is for the Executive Board to agree to a consultation process, then the document will be published.

There is a tight deadline though as the Welsh Government say that the plan has to be in place by April 2013, and final guidance was apparently not received until June this year. Consultation is likely to be October 15th to January 15th.
