On Friday 28th September, Ruabon Library was one of numerous libraries across Wales to take part in the Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The event, organised by six members of the library’s staff, raised just under £140 for the charity thanks to donations made by patrons and raffle tickets bought.

Raffle prizes

Staff members Jane Blakemore, Maureen Evans, Alison Anderson, Nerys Woodall and Jill Etheridge hosted the event, while relief staff member Katie Witherden provided mouth-watering cakes as raffle prizes. The librarians themselves, along with several library users, baked rock cakes, caramel shortcakes, two huge chocolate cakes and other treats, many of which vanished nearly as quickly as they were put out.

Customers.

The librarians told Wrexham.com that they felt the day had been “very successful” and thanked the people who’d been kind enough to provide cakes, saying “People in Ruabon are very loyal to their library – there’s a real community spirit here!” We grabbed a quick word with several of the attendees who we tore away from their cakes for long enough for them to tell us “We’re really enjoying it, and we’re very glad the staff have put it on. It’s brilliant to see so many people coming in for it.”

Roland Fenner, Jay Bradbury and Jane Blakemore were the lucky winners of the raffle prizes – a massive gateau for Mr Fenner and two boxes of six cupcakes each for the other two.

Wrexham.com would like to congratulate the librarians on the amount of money raised.
