Successful Show for Grove Park Theatre Comes to an End

Wrexham’s Grove Park Theatre played host to a hugely successful run of musical Me And My Girl in September, with capacity audiences for 7 of the 9 performances! Wrexham.com caught up with director Rob Stevens to talk to him about the show’s success and the theatre group’s future plans.

Rob told us that they’d received “amazing” comments after the show and put that down to it being “such a happy show with lots of laughs and songs that everyone knows.” He also said to us, “Audiences loved the show and we had people returning to see it again and not being able to get a ticket.” The highlight, he felt, was, “The amazing cast and crew, they all worked so hard and really pulled together and put so much energy into it. We put the show together in just over 8 weeks of rehearsals, which for a musical is no mean feat, but everyone involved rose to the challenge and put on a great show.”

In addition, he thanked the technical team for all of the hard work they put in, “Musicals can be very dependent on the technical element, Lights and Sound, and we also used a lot of projections in the show and in the run up to the show the team spent lots of time prepping and getting everything ready and working.”

Filling us in on his background at Grove Park Theatre, Rob explained that he’d been a member for nearly 20 years, going from working backstage on one of the pantomimes to directing, via performing on stage, helping to build sets, rigging lights, working on the bar, choreographing, and doing many other things. As you can see, whether you’re interested in appearing on stage or taking a role behind the scenes, there are lots of opportunities to get involved, and Rob encouraged people to “Come and join in! We’re a friendly bunch of people and are always looking for new members to join us. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done anything like it before just come and give it a go and see what you like.”

Rob has a busy few months ahead as he’s performing in the Royal Albert Hall this weekend with Theatretrain, then going to Rhyl to work on a performance of Oliver! and will be spending 8 weeks in Chesterfield performing in pantomime alongside Charlie Dimmock!

Meanwhile Grove Park also have an exiting few months, with thriller Night Must Fall by Emlyn Williams running from 18 – 27 October and being followed by the ever-popular annual pantomime.This year that’s Dick Whittington, running from 7 December to 5 January, for a total of 31 performances – Rob’s the Musical Director for that one and I’m sure both shows will be well worth watching.
