Cost Of Policing At Wrexham FC Games Revealed

A Wrexham.com Freedom of Information request (FOI) has revealed the cost of policing to Wrexham Football Club over the past three seasons.

Between 2009-2012 the club has paid North Wales Police a total of just under £15,000 for policing inside the Racecourse Ground.

On a number of occasions fans have expressed concerns over the high level of policing at some of their conference home games. Overall there were 303 officers inside the ground between 2009-2012.

The football club is not required to pay for policing outside the ground, although figures we received show that a whopping 564 police officers have been present outside the ground for games during the three year period with the cost met by police budgets (council tax and government funding).

During Wrexham FC’s 2009/10 season the club paid £2,200 for policing services with 167 officers inside the stadium and 152 outside during 31 policed games.

Despite the number of police officers inside (68) and outside (149) the ground reducing during 2010/11 and the number of policed games going down to just nine, the club ended up spending over four times what they paid the previous season with a bill of £9,558.30.

In 2011/12 officers inside the ground stayed at 68 yet the bill came down by two thirds to £3,234.60. The number of police outside the ground went up by over 100 to 263 for eight policed games.
