Crusaders officials are appealing for fans to make pledges to buy a season ticket for next season in order to ensure the success of their application to play in the Co-operative Championship.

The Wrexham based rugby league side submitted their application to play in the league on September 2nd after fans rallied round to save the club following their withdrawal from the Super League.

Following meetings between the RFL and representatives of the Save The Cru campaign the club are now asking for supporters to make a pledge to buy a season ticket for next season to ensure the stability of their business plan.

A post on Save The Cru website said: “Our grave concern is that without commitment to buy season tickets from the fans, the RFL may consider this a weakness in judging our bid for the Championship, they may reject us and the Crusaders will die.”

“It is therefore essential we get as many commitments to buy season tickets for next year as possible, before 10am Thursday 16th September.”

Money pledged does not have to be paid now and will only need to be paid if the application is successful.

One key part of the application is that the fans will have a stake in the club and will participate in key decisions affecting the club. It was recently confirmed that current owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts, who withdrew the team’s Super League application at the eleventh hour, will not be involved.

With fan power in mind there are two different kind of season tickets which fans can by, including a standard season ticket costing £120 which, should their application be successful, would entitle fans to see 9 Cooperative Championship home games, plus two Northern Rail Cup matches.

However, £150 gives you the same number of matches, but also gives you the Gold Bondholder 2012 Cap or Pin Badge and the ability to attend four quarterly club management meetings and help set the direction of the club.

248 pledges had been made via the Save The Cru website within seven hours of the appeal being made yesterday with the target required believed to be about the 500 mark.

In a statement on the Crusaders website a club spokesperson said: “The extra £30 will make a MASSIVE difference to us so please dig deep.”

“The club would like to thank all of it’s fans for their support throughout 2011 and in particular over the last few weeks.”

They added that a decision regarding the club’s future is not expected to be made before Wednesday.

Crusaders players were paid an emotional farewell yesterday at the club’s final Super League game against Wigan.
