Trading Standards Warning on Pushy Memory Foam Mattresses Sales
Trading Standards has received reports from Flintshire residents, stating that a trader has been cold calling residents selling memory foam mattresses, the trader is known to visit the Wrexham area as well.
They have been knocking on resident’s doors, and stating that they have some left over mattresses which they need to sell. Reports have also stated that they have been visiting pub car parks selling the mattresses from their van; they are also stating the mattress is worth over £500.
There have been reports that the trader can be quite insistent and pushy. This department would like to make residents aware of this and remind residents If in doubt keep them out! Also, don’t buy products on the doorstep.
We would also like to remind residents that buying products on the doorstep is risky, as you will probably not be able to contact the trader should something go wrong with the product and there may be safety and hygiene implications regarding the products.
Additionally if a trader attempts to sell items or services in a consumer’s home then the ‘Cancellation of Contracts Made in a Consumer’s Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008’ applies. These regulations apply to contracts which are made during both solicited and unsolicited visits at a consumer’s home or workplace, the home of another individual or on an excursion organised by a trader away from his business premises. This notice must be given if the contract is for £35 or more. If you are not supplied with a cancellation notice then the contract can be deemed unenforceable.
