Roadworks outside a busy Wrexham supermarket are causing traffic chaos for motorists today.

Resurfacing works are currently ongoing until 28th August on the two lane system at St.Georges Crescent by KFC and Farndon Street near the exit to Tesco.

Motorists complained that they have been left waiting as long as 40 minutes trying to leave the supermarket’s car park.

The problem was caused after the two lane system on Farndon Street heading towards Eagles Meadow was reduced down to one before the first pedestrian crossing.

When Wrexham.com went to have a look at the situation at 1pm cars were queued bumper to bumper in the Tesco car park as far back as the entrance to the store.

David Wallace tweeted us to say: “Be warned, taking approx 40mins to get out of Tescos.”

Natalie Hooson (@nat08988) added: “just took me 20 minutes to get out of Tesco car park! Absolute gridlock! ”

Graham Edwards (@grahameddyok) advised people to use the Tesco overspill car park exit to avoid the traffic, he said: “Tesco is manic. Just left there bumper to bumper. Advice for anyone else going to Tesco go the overspill car park and exit that way. Less than 20 seconds to get out passed Mecca bingo from Tesco.”

A Wrexham Council spokesperson said: “Resurfacing works ongoing will see the roads worked on until 28 August.  We are checking the Tesco situation and we’ll get back to you if we have anything else to report. ”

Update at 5pm: Wrexham Council have been back in touch to say that officers have visited the site and amended the traffic management arrangements which they said “seems to have made the issue easier”.

However, at 4.55pm the picture below was taken of the scene at Tesco by Emma Tattum (@MiniEMZ86) who told us that traffic was still bad. Below that is a picture of traffic at 1pm.
