Police Warn Of Motorcycle, Moped, Quad Bike and Bicycle Thefts

North Wales Police are asking anyone who owns a moped, motorcycle or quad bike to be extra vigilant following a recent rise in the number of thefts of such vehicles across the force area.

At 5am on Wednesday two offenders were arrested after the police helicopter was deployed over Wrexham in pursuit of a stolen motorbike.

Police have advised people to take a few simple security measures to prevent them from becoming a victim of crime.

Their tips include:

• Having good security is essential, and you should not just rely on a steering lock for security, consider an alarm/immobiliser
• If your bike is kept in a garage / outbuilding /shed always make sure it is alarmed have anchor bolts fitted and chain your bike to it adding extra security.
• Forensically mark your bike with DNA coding – available through SelectaDNA or Smartwater
• Take full details of your bike including serial numbers, special markings and take a photograph

Police have also warned cyclists in Wrexham and Flintshire of a recent number of bicycle thefts.

They are advising them to keep photographs of their bikes and to record details such as serial numbers to help identify them in case of a theft.
