A local charity Director has been shortlisted for the upcoming Morgan Foundation Awards to be held at Carden Park Hotel next month.

Dawn Roberts is the Director of the Empowering Youth Foundation, who teach life skills to disadvantaged youth through sport and set up the charity three years ago near Manchester when she found a need to introduce a fun, non-competitive, learning programme for those who would not normally get the opportunity.

Since then the reach of the charity has extended to Wrexham, where Dawn is now based, and continues to have a positive impact on youth in and around the town. Recently, the charity took a group of participants from St. Christopher’s School to the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club (read more about it here) where they had a memorable day interacting with some of the stars of women’s golf.

Dawn is the only candidate shortlisted for an award from the Wrexham area and is up against three other candidates in the Best Entrepreneurial Individual working in a Charity or Social Enterprise category. Dawn commented:-

“The other candidates have achieved so much in the work they have done, I’m thrilled to be shortlisted.”

The Morgan Foundation awards recognise achievements in the world of business and social enterprise within a designated region spanning across part of North West England, North Wales, Shropshire and the West Midlands.

Nominated candidates will be making presentations to judges in two weeks, and the winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony on 15th November.
