Having applied for over 15 jobs online, I decided to head into the town centre to look at noticeboards and shop window advertisements. I managed to hand out 10 CVs to various companies in hope of securing work but the chances of hearing from any of these companies seemed to be slim. Having seeked advice from a number of close friends and family, I decided to head to the Job Centre to meet with a specialist who may be able to help me in my search.

After a brief conversation, I was encouraged to ‘sign on’ as I would be eligible for Job Seekers Allowance. Basically, this is where you are entitled to a fixed weekly sum if you are actively looking for employment. I decided against this as I felt that my job search would eventually pay off but at least I now know that the option is available to me if no opportunities materialise.
