This month we celebrated the NHS’ 72nd birthday, allowing us to pay tribute to all the lives that have been saved by the hard work and dedication of our NHS workers.

During this pandemic I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the fantastic men and women at the Maelor, and have seen first-hand their dedication and compassion. Despite being faced with the biggest health crisis of a generation and being under unfathomable pressure, their commitment and sacrifice to caring for our community has been truly heart-warming.
It has been a pleasure to work alongside some of the fantastic men and women at #Wrexham Maelor Hospital during this pandemic. https://t.co/IVDPdQHRJC

Thanks to your sacrifices over the last few months, coronavirus cases have fallen, and we’ve seen a significant relaxation of restrictions here in Wales. I’ve met with local businesses to discuss their experiences of re-opening and the challenges faced.
It was fantastic to see more people out and about in #Wrexham and supporting local businesses today! #ShopLocal pic.twitter.com/xXtfyTZm8W

Earlier this month the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced his plan for jobs; supporting, creating and protecting jobs across the whole of the UK as we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic.
Measures such as the new ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme, giving people up to 50 per cent off their meals out, will provide a much needed boost to our hospitality industry, whilst schemes such as the Job Retention Bonus, will encourage employers to retain staff who have been furloughed. These schemes will provide stability to our economy in the months ahead.

More recently, the UK Government has announced that the Welsh Government will receive a minimum of £1.1 billion in additional funding this year, on top of £2.9 billion confirmed since March to help provide support following the coronavirus pandemic.
This announcement will take the total amount of coronavirus funding guaranteed to the Welsh Government to a minimum of £4 billion for 2020/21, on top of their Spring Budget funding, giving the Welsh parliament the certainty and financial flexibility to plan for the months ahead.

In the House of Commons, landmark bills have passed through the House this month. I am particularly proud to have supported the Domestic Abuse Bill, which ensures greater protection for victims of domestic abuse, whilst ensuring that perpetrators will be faced with the full force of the law.

I was pleased to meet with the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, on his visit to London to discuss shared security challenges, and our special relationship.

In my role on the Defence Select Committee I asked the Chief of the Defence Staff at the MoD, Sir Nick Carter, about the representation of female and BAME service personnel in the British Armed Forces.
During yesterday’s evidence session I asked about the representation of female and BAME service personnel in the British Armed Forces ⤵️https://t.co/L7dOUTBBIV https://t.co/JsJdWfmaju

I’ve also been working with the Fawcett Society on their national ‘Equal Power’ campaign to encourage more women, from a variety of backgrounds into politics.

During Prime Ministers Questions, I raised the story of my constituent, beautiful and brave Eva, who is fighting DIPG, an inoperable brain tumour. I am proud of Wrexham residents for rallying around Eva and helping to raise money for experimental treatment aboard. I asked the Prime Minister to work with the family for ways that Eva could access this treatment.

The last few months have showcased our resilience as a nation, and I’d like to thank everyone across Wrexham and the whole of the UK for the part they played in defeating this virus. The crisis is by no means over, but I am confident that we will overcome whatever obstacles come our way.
As always, if I can be of any assistance please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
