Pudsey Bear has been given a big boost in Wrexham thanks to a group of kind-hearted restaurant staff.

Staff from the Frankie and Benny’s restaurant on Eagles Meadow have already raised heaps of money this week and have set themselves a target of £5,000.

The restaurant chain is aiming to raise a massive £100,000 nationally before the end of the BBC’s Children in Need telethon tonight.

Marketing manager Tara Cunningham will present a huge cheque live on air and hopes they reach the full amount.

Tara said: “Here in Wrexham the fund-raising has been going exceptionally well. Staff laid on a charity breakfast with all proceeds going to the appeal and we did a special Halloween fund-raising night too.

Children were also able to eat for free today provided their parents made a donation to the appeal.

She added: “We have set a target of raising £5,000 in Wrexham before the weekend is over and we have a stall out in Eagles Meadow from which we are selling charity Christmas decorations, running games, holding raffles and selling delicious cup cakes.

“The response from Wrexham shoppers here at Eagles Meadow has been simply amazing and I’m sure we can reach our target.”

The stall will be in operation right up until Saturday.

Emma Wilson, who works as Christmas co-ordinator at the Eagles Meadow restaurant as well as its sister Plas Coch eatery, personally made the Pudsey cup cakes which are on sale at the stall.

She said: “I started my own little business, Em2cakes, which I run from home. I was delighted to be able to help the fund-raising efforts of Frankie & Benny’s and hope I’ll be very busy baking thousands more cup cakes between now and the end of the weekend.”
