Nightingale House Hospice has launched its popular annual sponsored Ladies’ Midnight Walk which will take place on Saturday 30th June this year.

As usual it will begin at the stroke of midnight and will be based in Wrexham, but this year the event has been given a bit of a re-vamp.

“The much loved ladies only event will now be 10K, so 6.5 miles as opposed to the usual 10 mile challenge,” said Margaret Hollings, Event and Fundraising Manager.

“The shorter route is to encourage more supporters to take part, as feedback showed that a lot of people were apprehensive about the 10 mile challenge in previous years.”

“We hope that this decision does not deter the more experienced walkers as it is still going to be a fantastic event just with less blisters!”

You can register for the Ladies Midnight Walk online or download a form at www.ladiesmidnightwalk.co.uk or alternatively you can pick up a form from one of the hospice’s charity shops or at Nightingale House itself.

The forms have also been given out to a variety of local shops, libraries and businesses so keep your eyes peeled. It costs £12 to register and sponsorship for the challenge is strongly encouraged.

“However much you can raise, be it a few pounds, hundreds or thousands you will still be helping Nightingale House to continue to offer their specialist palliative care, as every penny counts” said Margaret.

In 2012 it will cost £2.54 million to run the hospice, which equates to nearly £7000 per day. Only 19% of this comes from the Local Health Board, which is only enough funding to support the hospice for 69 days.

Nightingale House therefore greatly relies on the generosity of the communities it serves to raise the additional funding for the remaining 296 days of the year.
